How to choose a digital marketing agency in Mallorca: a checklist before you sign

Published on

Hiring a digital marketing agency Mallorca should not start with logo comparisons or the cheapest monthly fee. It starts with knowing which problem you want to solve, which channel fits your business, and which deliverables you will demand. Without that, every proposal sounds good and almost none can be compared.

In the Balearic Islands context matters more than many briefs admit: seasonality, languages, visitors who plan from abroad, and businesses that live off residents the rest of the year. This article is a practical checklist to choose well — or to decide you are not ready to hire yet.

Before you call anyone: write a one-page brief

If you cannot explain what you want in one page, the agency will invent the brief for you. Then you will argue about expectations instead of results. Include at least:

  1. Business and area. What you sell, to whom, where you operate (Palma, Inca, Ibiza, Menorca…) and whether you also serve other islands.
  2. A measurable 90-day goal. Not "more visibility": yes "more calls from Google", "more online bookings" or "more qualified quotes".
  3. Current situation. Website yes/no, Google Business Profile, active social accounts, email, past ads, CRM or a simple contacts spreadsheet.
  4. Budget and timing. Monthly or project range, and when you need the first actions live (not necessarily final results).
  5. Who decides inside your company. One contact person stops the agency from working blind between partners.

With that page you can request comparable quotes. Without it, every proposal describes a different project.

Questions for the first meeting

Good digital marketing agencies in Mallorca (and remote teams that understand the Balearics) answer with specifics. Use these:

  • What would you do in the first 30, 60 and 90 days? You want a plan, not a slogan.
  • Which channels would you prioritise and why? SEO, ads, email, social, Google Business… each business needs a different order.
  • How do you define success? Impressions, clicks, calls, forms, cost per lead, sales. If they only talk about "engagement", ask for precision.
  • Who does the work? Copy, design, ads, technical SEO. Avoid "we have a team" with no roles.
  • What do you need from us each month? Review time, photos, prices, Analytics access. If they ask for more than you can give, the project stalls.
  • What happens if results do not show up? Review criteria, channel changes, or a clean exit.

Write the answers down. If two agencies promise the same outcome at the same price, pick the one that explains the how more clearly.

Red flags

You do not need to be an expert to spot a weak proposal:

  • They guarantee the number-one spot on Google. No serious agency can promise fixed rankings.
  • Opaque pricing. A "gold pack" with no hours, channels or monthly deliverables.
  • Everything on social media when your customers actually find you on Google or WhatsApp.
  • Reports full of charts with no link to calls, bookings or revenue.
  • They never ask about your season. In Mallorca and Ibiza that usually means they have not thought about your business.
  • The same strategy for a hotel, a clinic and a neighbourhood shop.
  • A long lock-in with no milestones. Twelve closed months with no review at day 90 is a bad sign.

A serious agency is comfortable saying "this is not worth it for you" or "you are not ready yet".

Local vs remote: what actually matters

Does the agency need an office in Palma? Not necessarily. What does matter:

  • Local market understanding. Season, languages (Spanish, Catalan, English, German), areas (Palma, Calvià, Alcúdia, Manacor…) and differences between islands.
  • Availability for meetings when it counts (kick-off, crises, season changes).
  • Access to how you operate. Visiting the premises helps sometimes; for a SaaS or e‑commerce, a video call and data may be enough.
  • Same time zone and response culture. An eight-hour lag makes urgent summer campaigns harder.

A remote agency that understands the Balearics can beat a local one that only publishes generic posts. Judge criteria, not postcode.

Channels that often matter for island businesses

Not every channel is equal. Quick orientation (not dogma):

  • Google (SEO + Business Profile): essential if people search by service and place ("plumber Marratxí", "e-bike rental Alcúdia").
  • Search ads: useful in peak season or for services with a clear margin; risky if you do not track cost per enquiry.
  • A clear, fast website: without it, the rest of your marketing wastes money. If the site does not convert, fix that before raising ad spend.
  • Email and WhatsApp: strong for reactivating customers from previous years (clinics, workshops, schools, shops).
  • Social: worthwhile if your product is visual or if the local community is the real channel; it does not replace search when someone already has a need.

In Menorca and Ibiza search volume differs from Mallorca: sometimes less competition, sometimes less data. A good agency adapts measurement, not only budget.

When NOT to hire an agency (yet)

Hiring too early can burn cash. Wait or shrink the scope if:

  • Your offer and rough pricing are unclear. Nobody can sell well what you cannot explain.
  • The website is broken or hard to contact on mobile. Fix design and conversion first; then traffic.
  • Nobody inside can answer leads within 24–48 hours. Marketing without response is a leaky funnel.
  • You only want to "be on social" with no goal. A short freelance job or internal training may be enough.
  • Peak season is two weeks away and you expect miracles. Start in the quieter months, or with very tactical actions (ads, profile, landing page).

Sometimes the right move is a short project (audit + plan), not a monthly retainer.

Hypothetical example: e-bike rentals in Alcúdia

Imagine an e-bike rental business in Alcúdia that lives off summer and a few local customers the rest of the year. It wants "more online bookings" and asks three agencies for quotes.

  • The first offers a social pack: 12 posts a month and daily stories. It never asks about fleet calendar or languages.
  • The second talks only about SEO and guarantees a "top 3 in three months".
  • The third asks for the brief, reviews the site and proposes 90 days: fix the booking page and the English/German versions, complete the Google profile with zones and seasonal hours, search ads only in key months, and a monthly report with bookings and cost per booking — not likes.

The third is not the cheapest, but it is the only one comparable with the business goal. That is what you want when choosing a digital marketing agency in Mallorca.

Final checklist before you sign

Print it or keep it on your phone:

  • One-page brief written by you.
  • Measurable 90-day goal.
  • Written 30-60-90 plan.
  • Prioritised channels with reasons.
  • Metrics tied to the business (calls, bookings, quotes).
  • Clear roles (who writes, who runs ads, who reports).
  • Time you must dedicate each month.
  • Exit or review terms at day 90.
  • Itemised budget (not only a total).
  • References or examples from similar businesses (island, season, language), without invented miracles.

If three or more boxes are missing, ask for another proposal or reduce the scope.

Start with criteria, not haste

Choosing a digital marketing agency in Mallorca is less about "chemistry" and more about clarity: brief, questions, red flags and a 90-day plan you can understand. The same applies if you operate in Ibiza, Menorca or Formentera: adapt channels and measurement to your island instead of copying another business's template.
