You are here
Monday, 08:10. A maintenance tech opens the app in a hotel parking lot in Palma de Mallorca. An AI chat summarizes the work order then asks him to copy the same order into three more screens by hand. The same day in Ibiza, a supervisor watches an “agent” propose routes that ignore the ferry. In Menorca, the incident queue grows because nobody closed the ticket. People are not the failure: design is. AI agent app development is not a chatbot on top of a list; it is deciding, task by task, who acts and what counts as done across the Balearic Islands.
This piece is not a do you need an agent? scorecard. We already covered that. The angle here is different: a human / agent / hybrid task map so you can specify the app before you sign a quote.
The outcome contract (not the screen contract)
An agent-powered app pays off when every flow has an observable outcome: ticket closed, route confirmed, guest notified, stock locked. If the outcome is the model said something interesting, you are buying theater. Balearic high season punishes ambiguity: multilingual staff, seasonal hires, and cross-island spikes. Start the brief with outcomes, not wireframes. If you still need to choose native, hybrid, or web, align the channel with app development in Palma or the mobile apps in Mallorca service page. And if the bottleneck is CRM, not the field app, check whether your CRM is ready for AI agents first.
Task map: human, agent, or hybrid
Fill this table for your five critical flows. The who acts” column is the product decision. Without it, every AI demo looks like magic and every go-live looks like chaos.
| Task | Expected outcome | Human | Agent | Hybrid |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classify inbound incident | Type + priority + site | Only if ambiguous or sensitive | First-pass automatic | Agent proposes; human confirms exceptions |
| Assign tech / route | Person + window + island | Override on Ibiza/Menorca spikes | Proposes with rules + calendar | Agent schedules; supervisor approves changes |
| Notify the customer | Message sent and logged | VIP or complaint cases | Templates + tone by language | Agent drafts; human sends if high risk |
| Close ticket with evidence | Done state + photo/note | Capture evidence in the field | Validates checklist and closes if OK | Human uploads; agent validates and archives |
| Escalate to external vendor | Order created + SLA | Negotiation and exceptions | Draft order and tracking | Agent prepares; ops signs off |
If almost everything lands on “human,” you do not need agents: you need a clear ops app or AI process automation behind the scenes. If almost everything lands on agent with no guardrails, you are one ferry miss away from a reputation incident. Bounded hybrid is usually the sweet spot for SMEs in Palma, Ibiza, and Menorca.
Three anti-patterns that sell well in demos
1. Pretty chat with no writes to the system of record
The agent talks, but state still lives in WhatsApp. At go-live nobody trusts the app. Demand transactional writes: create, update, close. If they only sell a “conversational assistant, ask to see the same flow in the ops panel.
2. Agent without permissions or audit trail
No roles, no who/what/when log, no limits on irreversible actions. In the Balearics you handle guest and vendor data: GDPR is not a slide. A serious AI software development company starts with permissions; if not, filter them with the questions in how to choose an AI software development company.
3. One agent for the whole business
Bookings, maintenance, billing, and HR in one brain. When it fails (and it will), it fails big. Prefer domain-scoped agents, orchestrated, with a clear handoff to a human. If the product is multi-site, isolation matters as much as in custom SaaS or custom software development in Palma.
Case: multi-island maintenance (Palma HQ, Ibiza peak, Menorca base)
A facilities company with HQ in Palma ran work orders by phone and Excel. In July the Ibiza peak doubled incidents; Menorca suffered delays from bad prioritization. They bought an “AI app” that summarized chats and the backlog grew.
They rewrote the brief with the map: the agent classifies and proposes a route; the supervisor only approves exceptions (VIP, special access, ferry conflict); the tech closes with a photo; the agent validates the checklist and notifies. In eight weeks mean time to close dropped and chat became a channel, not the system of record. The lesson: agents win when the outcome is defined; they lose when they replace a missing process. If the bottleneck was pure process, a 30-60-90 automation plan would have been the right prior step.
Acceptance criteria before you sign
- Every pilot flow has a measurable outcome (not “better experience).
- Human / agent / hybrid table signed by ops, not only marketing.
- The agent writes to the system of record (states, not just text).
- Action log and rollback on irreversible steps.
- ES/EN messaging to customers (and Catalan when needed).
- Load test with an Ibiza-style peak or a Palma event day.
- Handoff plan: when a human takes over without losing context.
- Off-season maintenance included (model, prompts, integrations).
If the partner cannot show these eight points on a bounded pilot, you are not buying agent app development: you are buying a demo.
FAQ
Do I need agents if my current app already works? Only if there are repetitive tasks with clear outcomes and clean data. If the app is a WhatsApp drawer, fix the flow first.
One big agent or several small ones? Several small ones with orchestration. Easier to audit and to shut off when one fails.
Does the app have to be native? It depends on the field: offline, camera, GPS. The agent does not choose the platform; island use does.
How long is a serious pilot? Usually weeks, not a weekend: one domain, two roles, one outcome. Expand later.
What if the agent errs in high season? It must fail toward a human with context, not invent closures. That is designed; it is not improvised in August.
Send us your 3 manual tasks
If you operate in Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, or Menorca and want Derek Solutions to map human / agent / hybrid, write with only three data points: (1) the three tasks that burn the most manual time in your app or WhatsApp, (2) which island hurts most at peak, and (3) what counts as “done” today for each. We will send back a one-page map — no endless demo theater.
